First Aid Level 2


Introduction

The First Aid Level 2 training course is an intermediate course. As Level 2 First Aid is not a requirement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, it is ideal for any person who is enthusiastic to know more about cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other lifesaving skills and techniques to be used in an emergency. Any person participating in this first aid training course will be able to render safe and effective first aid in a medical, injury or environmental emergency. This first aid training course provides a lot of hands-on practice in the skills of CPR, safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), splinting, bandaging and managing bleeding.

Duration

This First Aid Level 2 training course is facilitated over three days adding up to a total of 24 hours.

Award

On successful completion a First Aid Level 2 certificate for 3 years is issued.

Requirements

  • First Aid level 1 is required. Training course participants must be able to read, write and understand English and have basic math skills. Evaluation requirements include a written test as well as a practical skills tests

Course content

Basic CPR and the safe use of an AED are skills required to save a person's live. A first aider needs to ensure that he remains safe by using basic protective equipment and to adhere to the basic principles of ensuring a scene is safe before continuing to help any victim in an emergency situation. His/ her first aid training must also be able to come to his/ her rescue if he/ she is faced with multiple casualties on the same scene.
